Cincy Bindery dates back to 1964 when Hugo Grummich started his first business, Cincinnati Bindery. Hugo was a master bookbinder from Austria and learned the craft from his uncle. Hugo retired in the 1980s and sold the business to the Klein family. The business returned to the Grummich family when Hugos son, Karl, bought the assets back in the 90s. The bindery later sold to outside investors who moved the whole enterprise out of state, leaving a highly skilled workforce here in Cincinnati.
Original customers pleaded with Karl to reopen the bindery because they longed for the quality work and craftsmanship he once provided. He fulfilled their wishes and now we have Cincy Bindery, back in the original factory building, with the original skilled workers eager for new challenges.
In 2023, Cincy Bindery became a woman owned business run by Karls daughter, Leah, a third-generation book binder. Karl and Leah have the privilege of working together through the father-daughter succession to ensure the traditions Hugo started 60 years ago continue for 60 more years to come!
